Film Adaptations
Multiple directors have attempted the undertaking of adapting Titus Andronicus to film. The most notable of these is the 1999 film Titus, directed by Julie Taymor and starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange. Titus Hanndronicus? What is interesting about this particular adaptation is that Taymor does not restrict herself to props from any one era. It is not uncommon to see men in roman garb driving a tank, or to see modern beer being drank around ancient bottles of wine. The combination of the modern with the ancient helps to show the timelessness of violence and the stories of Shakespeare.
Below is the trailer to the film Titus.
Aron the Moore is perhaps the most villainous character we have read. He identifies himself as being evil, and too him this is a core part of his being. He finds great pride in what he has done and even while facing his death does not waver, standing true to who he is.

There have been three other film adaptations of Titus Andronicus though none of them have the exposure that Julie Taymor's adaptation had. Two of the films were straight to video adaptations. The first straight to video adaptation, released in 1997 enhanced the gore of the play taking it to the extreme. The more recent of these two adaptions, released in 2000, set the story in a business setting with Saturnius inheriting a company from his father rather then the Roman Empire. The third adaptation was loosely based on the story and is a horror comedy titled Theater of Blood, which was released in 1973. The film is about an actor that when he fails to win a prestigious award from a group of critics he sets out on a revenge rampage, killing each critic in different ways from Shakespeare's works.
